The firm converted the historic Roney Palace resort, the largest resort in Miami’s South Beach resort district, into a brand new destination hotel. The project occupies the northern half of a large horseshoe structure. The interior courtyard is a tri-level beach club with private access to the waterfront. The project’s interiors are heavily influenced by Miami’s flare and vibrancy. The design objective for the guest rooms was to create a spacious and relaxing atmosphere, and a sense of luxury that would transcend the feeling of home. The guestrooms’ soft, neutral palette is punctuated with splashes of fuchsia, yellow and plum to reflect the sunlight and brightness of Miami Beach. The luxurious guestrooms, which are large enough to be mini-suites, are furnished with charcoal gray suede walls, custom-designed upholstery and furniture with either fuchsia or ultramarine highlights. Beds are oriented towards beach or pool views, adding to the overall resort atmosphere. The stunning lobby features a 53-foot shark tank and custom-designed carpet in an abstract palm frond pattern, a nod to the project’s setting. Through ample use of color, juxtaposition of textures and materials, the space creates a sense of excitement and acts as a primer for the total hotel experience.
